Lorna (played by Arta Donbroshi) obtains legal residency in Belgium through an immigrant marriage. Her biggest dream with her Albanian boyfriend Sokol (played by Alban Ukaj), who is working all over Europe to earn money, is to save up and open a bar together. Claudy (played by Jérémie Renier), a drug addict, marries Lorna to help her secure Belgian residency, and in turn, he receives some money from the intermediary, Fabrizio (played by Fabrizio Rongione). Fabrizio is planning a scheme to overdose Claudy on drugs while also preparing to help Lorna use the same method to make a Russian man a Belgian citizen. During the time Lorna and Claudy live together, they surprisingly develop some warmth towards each other, and Lorna decides to divorce Claudy quickly to save him from death. Claudy dies from a drug overdose, and Lorna proceeds with the plan quite smoothly, but she feels she is pregnant and tells Fabrizio that the father of the child is Claudy. At the 61st Cannes Film Festival in 2008, the Dardenne brothers won the Best Screenplay Award in the main competition for this film.
