Once an ordinary bank employee, Takamine Takeharu (played by Ryuhei Matsuda) suffers from a rare occupational disease that makes him extremely allergic to money; just seeing or touching it makes him dizzy, nauseous, or even leads to shock. To live a life with zero yen, he quits his job and moves to the aging village of Kamiyo Kure in the Tohoku region, where 40% of the population is elderly, ready to be self-sufficient. The overly enthusiastic village chief, Amano Saburo (played by Takafumi Abe), cannot ignore this young man who has no common sense or survival skills, and he and his wife Akiko (played by Takako Matsu) get involved in Takeharu's life, helping him clumsily settle into the village. An elderly man revered as a god (played by Toshiyuki Nishida) carries a camera every day, documenting the daily lives of Takeharu and the villagers. With a village chief election coming up, Kamiyo Kure faces the danger of being merged into another administrative district. Meanwhile, a mysterious person (played by Suzuki Matsuo) arrives, unveiling a little-known tragic past connected to Saburo... This film is based on the original work by manga artist Mikio Igarashi.
