Howie (Aaron Eckhart) and Becca (Nicole Kidman) were originally living a carefree middle-class life, happily married with their bright and clever son Danny. However, a car accident took Danny's life, completely destroying the Howie couple's life. Becca subsequently confines herself at home, trying various methods to alleviate her sorrow, but she is unable to erase her son's image from her memory. Howie attempts to act as if nothing has happened, which results in increasing tension and constant arguments with his wife. Becca unexpectedly meets the high school boy who caused her son's death and begins to consciously approach him. The frustrated and lonely Howie seems to be seeking a refuge for his soul... This film is adapted from David Lindsay-Abaire's Broadway play of the same name.
