The Kabuki artist Arashi Kyojuro (played by Nakamura Ganjirō) leads his troupe to a small town on the Shima Peninsula. He performed here in his youth and had a son with a local woman, A-Hō (played by Sugimura Haruko). Over the years, he has never forgotten to support A-Hō and her son, even though he rejoices in the growth of his son, Aki (played by Kawaguchi Hiroshi), he does not want him to know about their father-son relationship and only accompanies him as an uncle. The troupe has been stationed in the small town for a long time, and business has declined from an initial boom to a slump. Despite the growing unrest among the townspeople, Kyojuro is unwilling to leave with his troupe. One day, Kyojuro's lover in the troupe, Sumiko (played by Kyō Machiko), finally learns of the hidden truth.
