Suzuki Kazuki (played by Inohara Yoshihiko) ends his unsuccessful marriage with Shuko (played by Motoyama Akemi) and, after the divorce, lives with his 15-year-old son Koki (played by Michieda Shunsuke). Koki is at a sensitive and thoughtful age, and the upheaval in the family makes him feel very unsettled. Kazuki cannot provide the same level of detailed and caring attention that his wife did, which fills him with feelings of guilt. Koki fails his high school entrance exam and after studying for a year, manages to enroll, but in class, he always feels out of place due to his age difference with other students. Koki has a wish to taste the lunch made by his father, so Kazuki promises to prepare a bento for him every day during his three years of high school.
