Louis (Dennis Price) is the son of a noble family, the D'Ascoyne family, but his mother was disowned due to eloping with an Italian singer, and she faced family rejection until her death. Now grown, Louis vividly remembers the disdain of his aristocratic relatives who refused to allow his mother to be buried in the family plot. After experiencing rejection from his beloved Sibella (Joan Greenwood) because of his poverty, he begins to plot his revenge.
