This film is adapted from Zhang Ailing's novella of the same name. Tong Zhenbao (Zhao Wenxuan) is a man with a good reputation as a "gentleman," but when he encounters his charming former classmate's wife, Wang Jiaorui (Chen Chong), his heart becomes tumultuous. However, when Wang Jiaorui fully dedicates her true heart to him, he lacks the courage to bear the burdens of criticism and flees at the last moment.
