After Motoko Kusanagi, Batou teams up with detective Togusa. Recently, there have been multiple incidents of robots killing their owners and then committing suicide. Since the families of the victims have not filed public prosecutions and the deceased include politicians and law enforcement officials, the Public Security Section 9 sends Batou's team to investigate the case. The killer dolls are all Hadley models produced by the Land of the Lost Company, which, at the request of some customers, also have the function of being an opposite-sex companion. Batou gets involved in a fight with the gang after starting with the murder of an official from the Land of the Lost Company, and during this time someone invades his brain, causing him to self-harm. Batou decides to head straight to the headquarters of the Land of the Lost. He and Togusa visit the hacker Kim on the island of Zakuro, who sets a system trap. Fortunately, Motoko provides a warning to prevent Togusa from falling under control.
