In his six-year coaching career, Taylor has never won a season. When the best player on the team, Shiloh, decides to transfer, all hopes of winning in the new season fade away. After losing three games at the start of the season, Taylor discovers that the dads have decided to fire him, and the ensuing pressure causes him to lose all hope. How will he find the courage and confidence to overcome fear with faith? ◇Highlights: The American film sparks controversy over religious faith issues A film aimed at student audiences, telling the story of a high school football coach who influences players through faith in God, found an audience in Congress not because of its religious message, but due to its rating. Senator Roy Brent and many lawyers were quite displeased to hear that the film "Facing the Giants" was rated PG instead of G due to its religious content and wrote to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) demanding an explanation. PG means parental guidance is suggested, while G signifies the film is suitable for all ages. In his letter, Roy Brent questioned the MPAA why the film was rated restrictively due to its religious content, even citing a recent survey from the Harvard School of Public Health indicating that the MPAA's ability to manage issues of sex and violence in films is declining. The implication was a criticism of the MPAA for “overregulating what shouldn’t be regulated and neglecting what should.” MPAA officials did not reply to the concerns raised by Senator Brent and other lawmakers, but in a response letter to Brent, MPAA's Kirkman insisted that the rating was not solely based on religious content. He stated that any strong mature topics in the film could lead to a PG rating. “Facing the Giants” maturely discusses pregnancy and other mature topics, and “the PG rating was assigned to ensure that parents are aware of the messages their children will receive from the film before they watch it.” Senator Martha expressed dissatisfaction with this explanation, stating they would continue to examine the film rating process and standards, hoping to hold a hearing this year. Kirkman mentioned that the filmmakers had no objections to such a rating. Producer and Vice President of Marketing Chris indicated that after the controversy, the film association officials changed their narrative, saying, “During our first communication, they told us that religious content was one of the reasons for the rating.”
