By the clear little river, Daddy Duck is anxiously pacing back and forth, as his wife is hatching the ducklings. After a long and painful wait, fluffy ducklings emerge one after another from their shells. Watching his healthy and lovely children, Daddy Duck is overjoyed and kisses his wife wildly. Just then, the last egg begins to stir, and out comes a silly-looking white duckling. This infuriates Daddy Duck, who suspects his wife of being unfaithful, leading to a quarrel between the couple, and ultimately, Daddy Duck leaves in anger. Mama Duck, unwilling to surrender, decides to raise the group of children on her own. She brings the little ones for swimming and playing but especially dislikes the white duckling that caused her to lose her mate. The little white duckling is ridiculed by the other little animals, believing himself to be ugly and feeling very sad… This film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 1940 Oscars.
