In 1764, Horace Walpole published the first Gothic novel in English literature, "The Castle of Otranto." The novel's mysterious and magical elements, along with the intricate plot surrounding Isabella's emotional development, captivated countless readers. For a long time, the novel was believed to be based on a small town in southern Italy; however, Horace Wybo, who has loved the novel since childhood, was unable to find a castle in Italy that matched the description in the book. By chance, he found a clue from a postcard sent by a friend, leading to a significant discovery at the castle of Otrhan near Náchod in the Czech Republic. The director selects important chapters and scenes from the book, interspersing photographs and research from Horace's local visits to present the true face of the mysterious castle to all loyal fans of "The Castle of Otranto."
