Under the brutal rule of the Taliban in Afghanistan, civilians, especially women, live a hellish life of suffering. The stubborn young girl Parvana (voiced by Saara Chaudry) goes out to earn a living with her father (voiced by Ali Rizvi Badshah), only to witness her father being insulted by a former student, and along with her family, she witnesses her father's illegal arrest. With a sickly mother, an adult sister, and a hungry younger brother at home, the young Parvana has no choice but to cut her hair and disguise herself as a boy to step out of the house and embark on an uncertain journey to support her family. In this process, she encounters a former friend also disguised as a boy and becomes friends with a silent, burly Taliban member. As the shadow of war looms once again, Parvana is determined to find her missing father and bring him home... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Deborah Ellis.
