Mariam lives in a small apartment in Karachi, Pakistan, with her younger brother and mother, Farida. After the death of Mariam's grandfather, his brother tries to force them to transfer the apartment to him. This is quite common in Pakistan due to the lack of robust protection mechanisms for women's property rights. Mariam's mother is overwhelmed by the grief of losing her husband and the loneliness that follows, making it difficult for her to think rationally. Mariam feels angry at her mother’s foolish actions. During this time, she develops a romantic interest in a classmate, finding solace in the budding relationship. However, when their relationship takes an unexpected turn, Mariam finds herself sinking into nightmares. Meanwhile, her mother is caught between a domineering uncle and a complicated legal system, completely ignoring her daughter's deteriorating mental state. Mariam’s nightmares increasingly intertwine with reality. The mother and daughter must unite to ultimately overcome the ambiguous forces that threaten to consume them.
