Synopsis: Inspector Fang Jin of the Inspectorate is framed by eunuchs and is given a death sentence by the emperor under the accusation of abusing power for personal gain, with his entire family being escorted back to their hometown. After Fang Jin's wrongful conviction, Tie Feihua entrusts Governor Dong Cheng of Huguang to escort Fang Jin's orphan, Fang Tuo. From the capital to Shaanxi, along the way, there are constant dangers, and Dong Cheng, living up to Tie Feihua's trust, repels assassins attempting to kill the loyal orphan several times, escorting Fang Tuo to Wuye. The assassins targeting Fang Tuo are none other than the eunuchs of the Western Depot, sent by the palace steward Sun Zhi. Since Wang Jiangyang was eliminated by Tie Feihua, Sun Zhi has been filled with hatred for Tie Feihua and his benefactor, Duke Jiu. Eunuch Chen Jian of the Western Depot has attempted to assassinate Fang Tuo several times without success, leading Sun Zhi to devise a poisonous plot, leveraging the emperor's decree to have Duke Jiu capture Fang Tuo and hand him over by the Double Ninth Festival within Shaanxi, where he will be verified by Shaanxi Supervisor Cao Yifeng and escorted back to the capital. Sun Zhi’s plan is indeed malicious: if Duke Jiu fails to capture Fang Tuo, he will be charged with negligence along with Tie Feihua; if he succeeds, Sun Zhi will secretly send his trusted aide Chen Jian to hunt down Fang Tuo, Duke Jiu, and Tie Feihua, putting them in a dire situation, avenging the death of Wang Jiangyang. Duke Jiu, being incompetent, will rely on Tie Feihua to seek vitality and turn danger into safety in their dilemma. Grateful for Duke Jiu's esteem and Fang Jin's cultivation, Tie Feihua decides to act. Tie Feihua remembers Wanyun from Kuaichi Hall. Kuaichi Hall has a branch in Shaanxi, and Wanyun is the landlady of the Four-Horse Inn at that branch. After some arrangements, Duke Jiu disguises as a merchant under the covert protection of the Jinyiwei captain Diao Xiong and makes his way to Shaanxi, staying at the Four-Horse Inn; just after Duke Jiu checks in, Chen Jian, sent by Sun Zhi, arrives and clashes with Duke Jiu at the inn. At this moment, Tie Feihua has moved into Cao Yifeng's residence, observing the situation. As Tie Feihua watches the situation unfold, the Four-Horse Inn is filled with the gleam of knives and swords. First, Duke Jiu, flamboyant and unrestrained, competes with Chen Jian over a moment's superiority; after the mysterious death of one of Chen Jian's subordinates, suspicion and fighting arise between Duke Jiu and Chen Jian. Under pressure from Chen Jian, Diao Xiong sides with Chen Jian, and when Diao Xiong attempts to harm Duke Jiu, he too is killed. With chaos continuing at the inn, Cao Yifeng's confidant Wang Jin leads troops to besiege the inn but ends up slashing Chen Jian in the skirmish. Everything unfolds as Tie Feihua anticipated. With Chen Jian dead, Wang Jin cannot escape the ramifications, and Cao Yifeng, behind Wang Jin, cannot clear himself of the charge of plotting against the eunuchs of the Western Depot. Tie Feihua intends to exonerate Cao Yifeng but unexpectedly finds him returning kindness with malice by besieging Duke Jiu and Tie Feihua. However, by this time, Tie Feihua has entrusted Fang Tuo to Dong Cheng, Wanyun, and other friends from the rivers and lakes. Unable to hand over Fang Tuo, Cao Yifeng ultimately softens in front of Tie Feihua and pleads for mercy. Tie Feihua lets Cao Yifeng go, parts ways with Duke Jiu, and thereafter distances himself from the officialdom, roaming the rivers and lakes.
