In the early morning of April 26, 1986, the No. 4 reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, located near Pripyat, Ukraine, exploded. The initial steam explosion resulted in the deaths of two people, but the harm caused by the high-energy radiation released during the accident is far more severe, with the number of dead and injured still difficult to count today. In another spring of 2008, the cartoonist Emmanuel arrived by train, preparing to enter the exclusion zone to document his two-month life in this land still marked by deep scars with his brush.
