Due to a rare disease, the girl Madeleine has always lived in a sterile glass house, fantasizing about the outside world. On her eighteenth birthday, a boy moved in next door; he had honey-colored skin, wore only black clothes, and had a dimple when he smiled. He was so free, like the sun in Hawaii, and he made Madeleine realize that what she had read in books was just an illusion of life. For love and for freedom, Madeleine wanted to step out of that house, and even if it meant sacrificing everything, she wanted to see the dazzling world she longed for. Meeting the person she loved and discovering a brand new world, the girl Madeleine then understood that living life to the fullest was worth it, and she would not have lived this short life in vain.
