In a corner surrounded by mountains, under a blue sky and clear waters, a boarding school is located here. That early summer day, the boy Yuu (played by Eri Miyajima) jumped into the lake and committed suicide. His death seemingly did not stir much of a ripple; most people quickly forgot about the incident, and as summer vacation arrived, they returned home one after another. In the empty campus, only one dormitory still had lights on. They were Yuu's roommates, Kazuhiko (played by Tomoko Daito), Naoto (played by Miyuki Nakano), and Norio (played by Rie Mizuahara). Yuu's death left them with a multitude of thoughts. One day, a transfer student named Kaoru (played by Eri Miyajima) appeared before the three of them, and his appearance was remarkably identical to Yuu's! Is it a dream? Is it an illusion? Waves surged in the hearts of the boys... This film is adapted from the manga "The Heart of Thomas" by Moto Hagio, featuring all young male characters played by female actors. The film won the Best Cinematography and Best Director awards at the 1989 Yokohama Film Festival.
