Since childhood, Ishikawa Riku (played by Tetsuya Watari)希望 to become part of the underworld and joined the Kawata Group in 1940. He worked hard for the organization's growth but remained underappreciated due to his violent and aggressive temperament, leaving him resentful. After the war, Ishikawa, along with his friend Imai Kōzaburō (played by Chikage Awashima) from Hokkaido prison, attacked Chinese gangs. During the conflict, Ishikawa met a barmaid, Keiko (played by Yumi Takigawa). With police collusion, Imai took over the Chinese casino and formed the Imai Group. Ishikawa stabbed a member of the Ikebukuro Shinwa-kai, leading to tensions between the two factions, prompting the leader of Kawata Group to hire Americans to mediate. Shortly after, Ishikawa, after being reprimanded, blew up the car of the Kawata Group's upper echelon member, Nozuki Kōzaburō (played by Akira Andō), resulting in a series of misfortunes that led to severe backlash from Kawata. In a drunken state, Ishikawa stabbed the group's leader, committing a grave taboo among gangsters, and was expelled from Tokyo for ten years. A year later, after becoming addicted to drugs in Osaka, Ishikawa returned to Tokyo, where pressure from Kawata led to a fallout with Imai.
