Henry (Luke Wilson), who has always led a quiet life, unexpectedly discovers that he is terminally ill and has little time left. Disheartened, he decides to withdraw from society and hide away to end his life. He buys a small house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, avoiding all unnecessary social interactions and minimizing his social circle. Unexpectedly, Henry's neighbor Esperanza (Adriana Barraza) sees a miracle on the wall of his house. As the news spreads, Henry's home becomes a "holy site" for many believers, including the beautiful woman Dawn (Radha Mitchell), who is raising her young daughter alone. Dawn's daughter suffers from childhood autism, but in a moment of witnessing the miracle, the little girl unexpectedly starts to speak.
