Brad (played by Ben Stiller) has always been a steadfast idealist. Now, he and his wife Melanie (played by Jenna Fischer) are raising their son Troy (played by Austin Abrams) together. At the same time, he runs a nonprofit organization that connects those in need with capitalists, helping these individuals gain access to financial support. One day, Brad begins to reflect on his life and suddenly feels worthless. He believes that all his ideals and efforts over the years have been meaningless. He cannot provide substantial help to others, nor can he give his family a better living condition, while his university classmates, who are the same age as him, have all become key figures in their respective fields. Brad feels as though his entire life has been negated.
