Michiko (played by Mariko Tsutsui) is a kind nurse who is responsible for caring for a terminally ill cancer patient named Taka (塔子). Yoshiko (played by Mihiko Ichikawa) is Taka's daughter, who once had a very strained relationship with her family. With Michiko's intervention and mediation, Yoshiko gradually improves her relationship with her mother and finds a direction for her future; she hopes to become a gentle and kind nurse like Michiko. Yoshiko's younger sister Saki (played by Miu Ogawa) gets caught up in a kidnapping incident and becomes a hostage, only being rescued from captivity a week later. To Michiko's surprise, the kidnapper is none other than her own nephew, Tatsu (played by Ren Sudou). Yoshiko and Michiko come to a consensus not to tell Taka about the incident, but when Yoshiko learns that Michiko is about to marry someone else, jealousy and anger cloud her judgment, leading her to make an irreversible decision.
