The Tokugawa shogunate has fallen, and Japan has entered an enlightened democratic era. However, during the Meiji period, corruption and greed still exist among the government, military, and merchants. In the eighth year of Meiji, the Blood Tax Rebellion erupts. A primary school teacher, Kazama Go (played by Masaki Daimon), is attacked by rebellious farmers while traveling with his family. Kazama and his son, Shirou (played by Shinichi Uchida), are brutally murdered, and his wife, Sayaka (played by Miyoko Akaza), is assaulted by the mob. Afterward, Sayaka seizes an opportunity to kill a thug, and while in prison, she secretly communicates with the guards and officials, doing everything she can to give birth to a daughter named Yukihime, entrusting her with the mission of avenging the family. Her prison mates sympathize with Sayaka's plight and try every means to entrust Yukihime to the skilled monk minister, Doukai (played by Akira Nishimura), for training. Twenty years later, bearing immense hatred, Shura Yukihime (played by Meiko Kaji) arrives in the world amidst blood and turmoil... This film is adapted from the manga originally conceived by Kazuo Koike (script) and created by Kazuo Uemura (art). The theme song was later used by Quentin Tarantino in "Kill Bill."
