This is a story about familial love and struggle. A desperate father, forced to steal to support his family, causes his prideful son to run away from home. The film provides a detailed depiction of family relationships and wealth disparity. It is adapted from the novel of the same name by William H. Armstrong, telling the experiences of a Black family in America during the 1930s. The story revolves around a boy's faith, effort, and unwavering determination, with the protagonist being an 11-year-old boy from a Black sharecropping family. At that time, during an era of economic depression, this family's livelihood faces severe challenges, with only the loyal dog Sounder remaining by their side. The father, to sustain the family, steals food but is caught and sentenced to a labor camp. The boy embarks on a long journey with Sounder to visit his father. Throughout this journey, the boy experiences unprecedented moments, especially meeting a caring teacher who helps him learn to read. The boy undergoes significant growth through various trials, holding onto endless ideals and hopes for the future despite facing adversity. In 2003, Disney remade this classic film. The Morgans, a loving and strong family of Black sharecroppers in Louisiana in 1933, face a serious family crisis when the husband and father, Nathan Lee Morgan, is convicted of a petty crime and sent to a prison camp. After some weeks or months, the wife and mother, Rebecca Morgan, sends the oldest son, who is about 11 years old, to visit his father at the camp. The trip becomes something of an odyssey for the boy. During the journey, he stays a little while with a dedicated Black schoolteacher. Award Records "Sounder" received Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay in 1973. It ranked sixty-first in the American Film Institute's list of the top 100 inspirational films in 2006.
