The story takes place after the end of World War I. Alan (Domhnall Gleeson) has completed his mission of defending his country and returned to a peaceful life. He hopes to start writing again, using words to bring strength to society, but soon he realizes that he seems to have lost his ability to write. At the same time, the terrible war has caused great trauma to Alan's soul, leaving him tormented by PTSD. In desperation, Alan moves to the countryside with his wife Daphne (Margot Robbie) in hopes that the beautiful scenery can heal his wounded spirit. His son Billy (Will Tilston) and his beloved toy bear provide Alan with endless inspiration, leading him to create the children's book "Winnie the Pooh."
