In 1945, in Imlay City, Michigan, renowned automotive inventor Preston Tucker sought funding from Jewish financier Abe Karatz for his newly designed car. This new type of "Tucker" automobile, utilizing principles of aerodynamics, was dubbed "the car of tomorrow." Abe Karatz agreed to Tucker's request. After receiving government approval, Tucker used an old pre-war factory in Chicago as his test site. Tucker and his engineers worked day and night, needing to produce 50 cars in the first year. Eventually, through their relentless efforts, the first "Tucker" car was successfully manufactured. When the "Tucker" cars went into production, automotive manufacturers in Detroit envied his invention, launching an assault—three major car companies authorized senators to act as spokespersons, pressuring Tucker's company with harassment and accusations, controlling Tucker's company technically, ultimately leading to the closure of Tucker's factory due to litigation, burying Tucker and his dreams. Tucker died of cancer six years later, and the Detroit automotive companies took over all of his inventions.
