This is the story of a group of highly intelligent young men. In the 1980s, at a boys' school in northern England, eight high school students are actively preparing for the admissions exams for Oxford and Cambridge universities. These boys have distinct personalities. There's the charming and self-important Dakin (Dominic Cooper), and the physically strong but intellectually sharp Rudge (Russell Tovey), among others. They each have their own interpretation of textbooks and knowledge. The literature teacher is Hector (Richard Griffiths), a plump, eccentric old man with a unique teaching style. He believes that students should find emotional resonance and enjoyment from the books, rather than simply reading for the sake of exams. In contrast, the newly hired teacher Tom (Stephen Campbell Moore) aims to help these students get into Oxford or Cambridge as much as possible. The two different teaching approaches raise the question of which is superior, but perhaps there is no standard answer.
