In a refreshing little town in Gifu Prefecture, a single woman named Shizuru Tamai (played by Takako Tokiwa) works as a nurse at a clinic run by her classmate, living with her gentle grandmother Sakura (played by Kaoru Yachigusa) and her picky, talkative mother Tomie (played by Kie Negishi). Life is calm, yet it also makes one lament the boredom and frustration of everyday life. Due to work, Shizuru purchases picture books for children to read during therapy breaks, and naturally recalls a picture book she read in her childhood called "The Clown Who Prays to the Moon." Through the internet, she buys this book from a man named Kubo Ko (played by Shosuke Tanihara) who lives in Tokyo. Inside the book, there’s a handwritten note with a recipe for a snack; this piece of paper transcends space and connects Shizuru and Ko, who have never met before... This film is adapted from the original work by Eriko Kitagawa.
