The story takes place in Ohio in 1991, during a highly anticipated high school football game that locals hold dear. The teams facing off are the Cahoga River Raiders from Cleveland and the Coldwater Black Bears from Coldwater. Leading the charge for the Coldwater team is a high school student named Scott (played by Brian Presley), who after giving it his all to secure the first championship trophy for Coldwater, bids farewell to the field forever due to a leg fracture. Twenty years later, Scott, a football enthusiast, lives in disillusionment and regret. Financial struggles and career failures lead him to contemplate suicide, but after fainting in a car filled with carbon monoxide, Scott reappears on the field from twenty years ago. This scene, which he has imagined countless times in his mind, has come true. Caught between personal gain and honor, an ecstatic Scott decides to make a different choice.
