On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus (played by Edward Asner) visits an orphanage to deliver Christmas gifts to homeless children. However, a mischievous little baby accidentally crawls into Santa's toy bag and ends up being taken back to the North Pole. The kind-hearted Santa takes in this unexpected little visitor and, with the help of his elves, raises him to adulthood. As he grows older, the now-adult Buddy (played by Will Ferrell) turns out to be three times larger than the other elves, earning him the nickname "Big Buddy." One day, Buddy discovers that he is not an elf but a human. So, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his family. Eventually, he finds his long-lost father Walter (played by James Caan) and his new family members, who he has never met. However, Walter, who is busy planning a Christmas book, is unaware of his son Buddy's existence. Faced with the unfamiliar realities of the world and the indifference of people, Buddy feels a bit out of place. With Christmas approaching, Buddy decides to give his new family and the entire world the most surprising Christmas gift in his own way.
