"Live By Night," adapted from the 2012 novel of the same name by contemporary American author Dennis Lehane, is set in the 1920s and 1930s and tells the story of Joe Coughlin, a young man from a family of police officers who gets involved in the mob, becoming deeper entrenched and heading down a path of no return. This book is a sequel to Lehane's 2008 novel "The Given Day" and is divided into three parts: the first part, "Boston," follows Joe's entry into the mob and his love affair with the mob boss Albert White's mistress, resulting in his imprisonment and becoming a right-hand man to the mob boss Masso inside; the second part, "Ybor," narrates Joe's release from prison and his partnership with Masso to take down Albert, building his own empire in Tampa; the third part, "All the Children of Violence," tells of the fallout between Masso and Joe as they face each other in a final showdown. Reportedly, Sienna Miller plays Emma, the mistress of the mob boss; Zoe Saldana portrays Graciella Suarez, a woman Joe encounters when he establishes his own operation in Tampa; and Elle Fanning plays an ambitious actress, Loretta Figgis, who unfortunately gets into trouble.
