This chilling film about a gay couple involved in a kidnapping and murder won the Caligari Prize and the Teddy Award at the Berlin Film Festival, becoming a representative work of "New Queer Cinema" in the early 1990s, where the protagonists are all same-sex lovers. The director, Tom Kalin, is a senior member of two AIDS prevention organizations, and his works consistently feature three elements: homosexuality, murder, and are based on true events. His 2007 film, the controversial Savage Grace, also known as Wild Grace, tells the story of the London gay mother murder case that occurred on November 11, 1972.
