At the age of five, Suroku (played by Hiroyuki Sanada) was abandoned by his father, who left home, leaving young Suroku and his mother behind. He never knew what his father looked like and lived a life dependent on others, growing up in the Katada family in Joshu. After his mother's death, Suroku planned to venture out into the world, with Edo as his first stop. However, there, he led a carefree life.
