The story takes place in England in 1526, where King Henry VIII of England (played by Richard Burton) is tired of his wife and falls in love with the beautiful girl Anne (played by Geneviève Bujold). However, Anne rejects King Henry VIII's advances. To be closer to Anne, Henry elevates her to the position of lady-in-waiting, while the king's secretary Thomas Cromwell (played by John Colicos), eager to please the king, actively implements the king's divorce plan. Ultimately, the king deposes the queen and forces Anne to become his wife. However, it isn’t long before the king falls in love with another woman named Jane (played by Lesley Paterson), which infuriates Anne. Anne drives Jane away from the king, an act that angers the king and prompts him to initiate plans to eliminate Anne.
