The story takes place during Japan's Warring States period, where the samurai Inanji Yōbei (played by Gō Ayano) deeply loves Princess Reki of the Kasuga domain (played by Aragaki Yui). However, their social classes are vastly different, forcing them to conceal their love deep in their hearts. By chance, Yōbei meets a young boy named Shinichi (played by Akira Takei), who surprises Yōbei by revealing that he comes from the future. At Reki's request, Yōbei becomes Shinichi's guardian, while Reki is about to enter a political marriage with the powerful daimyō Ōkura Takatora (played by Takao Osawa). The scene shifts to modern times, where Shinichi's disappearance makes his parents, Akira (played by Michitaka Tsutsui) and Misako (played by Yui Natsukawa), extremely worried. Following the clues left by Shinichi, Akira and Misako travel back to the past, where they find Shinichi, becoming honored guests in Kasuga Castle as a family of three.
