Mr. Daikan (played by Hiroshi Yakusho), hot-tempered and arrogant, established the financially strong Luval Company through forty years of hard work. However, at his advanced age, he suffered a heart attack during a board meeting and was sent to the hospital for recovery. This is a hospital filled with all sorts of strange individuals: firefighter Takida (played by Gekidan Hitori), who was hit by a fire truck; the gossip-loving and singing drag queen Kunimura Hayato (played by Jun Kunimura); the gangster Ryumonji (played by Kei Uenaka) who was shot by his beloved little monkey, Shunpe; the quirky Horigumi (played by Takashi Abe); and a former child star (played by Satoshi Tsumabuki) who was once popular but now wishes to end it all. Of course, there’s also the doctor Asano (played by Takaaki Ishikawa), who frequently comes up with odd ideas and likes to imitate Peter Pan, the nurse Tamako (played by Anna Tsuchiya), who transitioned from a troubled girl, and the scheming Yasumi (played by Eiko Koike), who is obsessed with inheriting Mr. Daikan's family fortune. These eccentric individuals make life at the hospital continuously entertaining, much to Mr. Daikan's chagrin. There is also a little girl named Pako (played by Ayaka Wilson), who is like an angel. A car accident took her parents and left her with amnesia, only able to remember events from that day. Pako reads the fairy tale book her mother gave her on her birthday every day, and by chance, the bad-tempered Mr. Daikan becomes good friends with little Pako...
