Based on the novel of the same name by American author Arthur Golden. The story is told in the first person and spans from 1929 to the end of World War II, chronicling the life experiences of the female protagonist as she struggles and endures various hardships from a young age. Little Sayuri (played by Zhang Ziyi) is born in a poor fishing village and sold to a famous geisha house in Kyoto. There, she learns dance, tea ceremony, and gradually becomes the top geisha in the area, while constantly facing oppression and challenges from Kyoto's leading red geisha, Hatsumomo (played by Gong Li). By chance, Japan's most beautiful and renowned geisha, Mameha (played by Michelle Yeoh), decides to take Sayuri as her "sister," a move that changes Sayuri's life forever...
