Ned (played by Paul Rudd) is a "farmer" living in the city. One day, out of sympathy, he sells some drugs to a police officer at the market, only to be arrested for drug dealing. As a result, Ned's girlfriend kicks him out, and he has to turn to his sisters for help. He has three sisters: Miranda (played by Elizabeth Banks), an aspiring journalist; Natalie (played by Zooey Deschanel), who is bisexual and often argues with her girlfriend Cindy (played by Rashida Jones); and Liz (played by Emily Mortimer), who is married to a documentary filmmaker, and their marriage is on shaky ground. No matter which sister's house Ned stays at, conflicts arise, and to make matters worse, his sisters are dealing with their own troubling issues. Ultimately, Ned faces the danger of becoming homeless. What will Ned do to salvage his life and, "by the way," help his three sisters?
