In 1908, Adaline (Blake Lively) was born. Fast forward 27 years, and the once bawling baby has grown into an adult, starting her own family and becoming a mother. However, just at this happiest moment in her life, an unexpected incident leaves Adaline teetering on the edge of life and death, but she miraculously escapes. Soon, Adaline discovers some extraordinary changes in her body: she no longer ages and is forever frozen at 27 years old. The idea of eternal life sounds wonderful, but in reality, it is filled with pain. As time passes, the people Adaline loves gradually grow old and eventually leave her, leaving Adaline alone in this world, steeped in endless loneliness. She closes off her heart and stops interacting with the outside world, living this way for nearly eighty years until a man named Ellis (Michiel Huisman) enters her life.
