No one expected that Freud (played by Bernie Mac) and Louis (played by Samuel L. Jackson), two unremarkable men, once had a glorious moment in the music scene. Now, with the band's main stage gone and the band disbanded, both of their situations are not optimistic. A blink later, ten years have passed, and the lead singer's death brings new hope to these two down-and-out middle-aged men. They receive an invitation from the Apollo Theater to get back on stage, and after much persuasion, Louis joins, giving birth to a rap duo. However, the ever-changing entertainment industry leaves Freud and Louis as old relics nobody cares about. Under pressure and setbacks, their friendship faces unprecedented challenges. By chance, an impromptu performance by the roadside makes the two realize that true heavenly music comes not from showmanship or technique, but from the voice of the soul.
