This film is the last installment of the "Antoine series." Truffaut selectively includes snippets of Antoine's (played by Jean-Pierre Léaud) growth. At thirty, Antoine achieves professional success by entering a printing house to become a writer and publishes an autobiographical novel. In terms of marriage, his relationship with Christine (played by Claude Jade) comes to an end, but even after their divorce, they remain friends. When they finalize their divorce and reminisce about sweet past moments, they still feel a warmth for each other. The film also uses flashbacks to recreate Antoine's past life. He unexpectedly reunites with Colette, who has become a lawyer. Both encounter people who make their hearts flutter and put in considerable effort to maintain these connections.
