This film intertwines three poignant love stories across the seasons. The first story, "Burning Red Leaves," tells of Sawako (Mihoko Kanno) who is betrayed by her boyfriend Matsumoto (Hidetoshi Nishijima). Unable to bear the blow, she attempts suicide by overdose but fails and becomes a simpleton. On their wedding day, Matsumoto learns of this and, feeling guilty, runs away from the wedding, starting a journey to tie himself to Sawako with a red string. The second story, "Summer's Azure Sea," follows popular idol singer Haruna (Kyoko Fukada) who is disfigured in a traffic accident. A devoted fan sacrifices his own sight to stay by her side. The third story, "Silent Snow Mountain," depicts an elderly, ailing gang leader who knows his time is short. He whimsically revisits his old haunts and discovers that, despite the passage of time, his old lover still waits every Saturday at their agreed time and place, just like decades ago, with a bento box in hand.
