Ricki (Meryl Streep) is a wild and free-spirited woman. Many years ago, in pursuit of her rock and roll dreams, Ricki resolutely left her husband Peter (Kevin Kline) and abandoned her two children, Julie (Mamie Gummer) and Joshua (Sebastian Stan), leaving an indelible scar on this once-happy family. A number of years later, Ricki receives a long-awaited invitation from Peter to attend the wedding of their younger son Joshua, while also learning about the divorce of her eldest daughter Julie.
