Wayne (Robert De Niro) is a forensic expert in the police department. He is gentle and kind, never firing a gun at crime scenes; when faced with a standoff, he always chooses wit over force. By chance, Wayne meets mob boss Frank (Bill Murray), who greatly admires Wayne's intelligence, and through their interactions, they become friends. To repay Wayne's life-saving grace, Frank selects a bartender from his club, Gloriy (Uma Thurman), to be gifted to Wayne. For a week, Wayne can "use" Gloriy however he wants. However, among countless choices, Wayne picks the worst one—he falls in love with Gloriy.
