In 1943, to save their inevitable doomed fate, the invading Japanese army launched an attack on the strategic military stronghold of Changde in northwest Hunan. The local Nationalist army's 74th Army, 57th Division, was given an emergency command, and eight thousand soldiers, codenamed Tiger Ben, prepared to fight to the death against an enemy that outnumbered them. On the eve of battle, Company Commander Feng Baohua (played by Yuan Wenkang) postponed his wedding with his fiancée Wanqing (played by An Yixuan) to focus on preparations for combat. Meanwhile, local Miao youth Huang Erhu (played by Xie Mengwei), who harbored a personal grudge against the Japanese, eagerly enlisted. Before the enemy arrived, the military and civilians of Changde were already ignited with fighting spirit! However, under the overwhelming firepower of the Japanese troops, Deshan and He Fu fell one after another, turning Changde into a lonely city. Yu Chengwan ordered the entire division to fight alongside the city, and the Tiger Ben soldiers fought fiercely for every inch of land amidst poison gas and artillery fire. Ultimately, the 57th Division etched an immortal chapter in the history of the War of Resistance at the cost of their own demise.
