In 1964, at St. Nicholas Catholic School in the Bronx, New York, Sister Aloysius Beauvier (played by Meryl Streep) is strict and authoritarian, feared by her students; whereas the new priest, Father Brendan Flynn (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman), is warm and open-minded, loved by the students. During this time, Flynn shows particular concern for the first-ever black student at the school, Donald Miller (played by Joseph Foster). One day, Sister James (played by Amy Adams) reports Donald's unusual behavior to Sister Beauvier. Beauvier is convinced that Flynn is developing an inappropriate relationship with the boy and is determined to stop it at any cost. But what are the facts?
