Despite being a mother, Adele (Susan Sarandon) can't be described as "mature and steady." Living in her hometown of Wisconsin, she can't stand the boring and isolated life; in her dreams, Beverly Hills in Los Angeles is where she truly belongs. As Adele's daughter, Ann (Natalie Portman) has made it her daily task to burst her mother's daydreams. Living with such an eccentric mother, Ann's life is not easy. Finally, Adele's dream is no longer just a dream; she decides to make it a reality. Ignoring Ann's objections, Adele takes Ann on her journey to pursue her dreams. Along the way, a series of unexpected events and troubles gradually make Adele realize the huge gap between reality and dreams. At the same time, Ann begins to understand that a life where one boldly chases dreams is meaningful.
