Unable to endure the poverty and harsh living conditions in North Korea, the desperate young man, Choi Seung-cheol (played by Park Jung-bum), escapes to South Korea and becomes a defector who is constantly hiding. After arriving in South Korea, Choi Seung-cheol experiences significant improvements in his living conditions; however, being far from his homeland, the anguish in his heart is undeniable. Because of his identity issues, Choi Seung-cheol cannot have a permanent residence or stable job, let alone colleagues and friends to confide in. In his loneliness, the only companion he has is a stray dog that stays with him year-round. One day, he meets a beautiful woman named Suk-young (played by Kang Eun-jung), and he instantly falls in love. However, he knows deep down that his feelings will not bear fruit and can only bury his love deep in his heart. A long-planned scam causes Choi Seung-cheol to lose a significant amount of money, making him taste despair once again.
