Period drama actor Genshirō (played by Tōru Kazama) is a huge star beloved by countless audiences at the time. He is handsome, charming, and proud. In order to ascend in his career, he persuades his pregnant girlfriend Koshina (played by Keiko Matsuzaka) to be with the plain but kind bit actor Anji (played by Mitsuru Hirata), while he pursues the daughter of a film mogul, Tomoko (played by Chika Takami). Koshina starts showing symptoms of pregnancy toxicity, and to ensure the mother and child’s safety, Anji accepts various dangerous stunts to earn money for nutritional supplements. Over time, Koshina gradually begins to lean towards Anji. Meanwhile, Genshirō is facing the biggest crisis of his career... This film is adapted from the award-winning novel of the same name that won the 85th Naoki Prize and received eight awards at the 1983 Japanese Academy Awards, including Best Actress (Keiko Matsuzaka), Best Actor (Mitsuru Hirata), Best Director, Best Film, Best Score, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Tōru Kazama), and Best Newcomer (Mitsuru Hirata).
