As a country with an open attitude towards sexuality, Japan has gradually evolved a unique sexual technique within its already rich and diverse sexual culture—Shibari culture. This culture is documented to have begun in the Meiji period, with the painter Ito Jun'ichi having left behind the "Punishment Picture" depicting bondage.
