He is a down-and-out boxer, the glorious days of his past long gone, and he prefers not to mention them. Now, he roams the streets pushing a supermarket cart, without even a name, while his companions have given him a nickname—Chew Again (played by Samuel L. Jackson). Eric (played by Josh Hartnett) is a somewhat unsuccessful journalist, accomplishing nothing except being sent by his boss to cover worthless sports news. A brawl connects these two seemingly unrelated men. When Eric saves Chew Again from the fists of local thugs, he discovers his astonishing boxing talent. He realizes that this dirty old man was once a boxing prodigy who had disappeared, rumored dead under mysterious circumstances. A unique opportunity is at hand, and Eric knows what a heavyweight news story this could be, as it would make him famous overnight.
